It's my birthday and I'll smile if I want to!

So today is my birthday, and I refuse to have an attitude! History has proven that each year has provided some depressing remembrance, or disappointment in a year past unproductive. But after a long talk with God last night, I have decided that this year I refuse to let anything get me down for my various birthday celebrations…but the enemy sure is trying.

Last night, I went to the used CD store about 30 minutes before it closed. About five minutes before it closed I found three CDs I wanted, happy because, well new music always makes me happy. “You know all of our CDs are buy one get one free,” the clerk says. Oh shit, I can find another CD for free, I thought. About five minutes after closing, I am without free CD…no Neptunes…In Search Of…no Zero 7 or Portishead…they have Baduizm, but not Mama’s Gun. Damn. On a positive note, I got three awesome CDs: Long Time No See by Chico DeBarge, BE by Common and Room For Squares by John Mayer.

Returning home from the CD store, after driving around beautiful Clintonville for an hour listening to Chico, I lit a candle, popped in Common and went about relaxing for the evening. I look up, and there’s a bug on the wall. OK, so this is no big deal to those who kill bugs without any second thought. But I have called men out of bed in the middle of the night because of insects, so this was a pretty damn big deal. “I can kill the spider above my bed/although it’s hard because I’m scared,” I remember Jill Scott confidently singing on her song “That Fact Is (I Need You).” OK, Donna you’ll be 24-years-old in about two hours, you can kill a bug. So I killed the bug…my victory over having an attitude continues.

I wanted to treat myself this morning, so I stopped by Burger King on my trek to work. I get to the pay window, and the cashier yells out, “Don’t put those Cini-Minis in that bag…she ordered French toast sticks!” Woah, that was close, I thought. Once I get to work, I notice the hot French toast sticks, hey they even remembered the syrup, the hash browns are still there too…but no straw.

Ultimately, the good things are outweighing the bad and no matter how bad is could get I have one advantage…I can breathe and a dead person can’t!

Other good things about today:

I heard Pink Cashmere by Prince this morning.

I got to wear a new outfit with new lipgloss.

Today is the 201st day of the year.

I get cake and ice cream at work.

I get ice cream cake after work.

My sister called me this morning (though she’s still a little peeved about the TLC entry).

The first man (allegedly) walked on the moon today in 1969.

My friend Cinnamon and her sorority sisters are having a Cognac tasting at the Cove tonight at 6 p.m.

Today is Carlos Santana’s birthday too…Maria, Maria!

Today is also hip hop pioneer and Superhead baby daddy Kool G Rap’s bday.

I’m having a huge birthday bash tomorrow…I can’t wait!

Just blog hopping , decided to stop and let you know that I really like your blog.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who will call a man out of his bed in the middle of the night to kill an insect for me. You were so brave to kill the spider yourself , I think I will try and kill a bug myself, you have inspired me :) Happy Birthday to you!
