Guess What???

If you didn’t know…

The Roots just signed to Def Jam, under the helm of President S. Carter. With Common being so GOOD with Kanye, and now the Roots on a major urban label, will real hip hop finally be coming out of the underground? Who’s going to snatch up Black Star?

Not only are the Roots releasing a new CD on Def Jam, but they will be on tour…coming to Ohio twice! Of all of the bad decisions I ever made in my life, one was passing up the Roots at Ohio University in 2000…my bad P Tosh! Tour dates below:

Also coming to Columbus is John Legend (again) and Kanye West. There’s something about the fall that brings out the tours. I’ll be happy to see Legend again at a sit down, chill concert. And hopefully Kanye will learn some breath control so he doesn’t sound like the chorus of a Destiny’s Child song (can you keep up/make me lose my breaf)!

D’Angelo was in a car accident, but he’s cool. Hopefully, he’ll be like Kanye and use this to focus on making hot music.

Maxwell and the Fugees are slated for winter releases (not together). Man, if I haven’t thought about Maxwell everyday of this week. Some of the most important moments of my modern life (post 1999) stemmed from a Maxwell concert I went to in high school.

The VH1 Hip Hop Honors last night were kind of hot. I love VH1, and sometimes doubt their authority on urban things, but the show was pretty eclectic to the hip hop head. Highlights include Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue reuniting, and by the way they still look and sound great. Nelly stepped up his game, for real, by a performance of “I’m Bad” by LL Cool J. And I was extremely moved by his new buffed physique.

Gat damn! I am so embarrassed to see Bizzy Bone looking like Freddie Kruger on the home page at AllHipHop.com. He has a new web reality show that is going to be featured on the site. Gosh, hopefully he won’t say too much about Columbus…
