This Weekend

It's been really busy in the ghetto lately. I have some exciting new ventures in the works, and when I'm ready to reveal, you know you will be the first to know. In the meantime, here are some things I may be getting into this weekend. Hope to see you out and about.

Do something good for the community at lunchtime! Community For New Direction will be hosting a back to school rally called 4 L.I.F.E. (Living Independent of Fear Everywhere) at East High School and 12:30p.m. It is a social campaign geared toward promoting a positive lifestyle for inner-city youth. The campaign seeks to impact youth through literacy initiatives, the arts and music. Hosts from 107.5 will be there, along with some local celebs. For more info, check out CND's website at

For an end of the summer dose of music, poetry and community fair, check out the Hot Times Community and Arts Festival in the historic Olde Towne East area near downtown Columbus. Many of Columbus' hottest artisans will be on-hand for the free fest. Also, make sure to check out my new friends at the Columbus AIDS Task Force, that will be there kickin' the truth to the young black youth (or white youthin, or older folks).

Finally, my girl Jackie who has infamously brought us FreedomSuite for several years is meshing art, live music and food once again! J.O.E the perfect fusion, will be held every Friday and Saturday in September at the Kiaca Art Gallery, located at 941 N. High St. starting at 9p.m. The $10 admission includes the food people! If you don't believe that this event will be hot, you can live vicariously through the photos I'll show off on Monday!

Sheryl Underwood, you know that funny ass comedianne? Well, she'll be at the Easton Funny Bone this Saturday for three shows starting at 7:30 p.m. If you can spare the 20 bones, you should, just don't sit up don't want to get cracked on!

Don't forget Friday carryovers like the Hot Times Festival early and J.O.E. later on.

The Cove has become an official Saturday spot with DJ OSharp manning the boards.

If you're into college football (which I'll need to learn more about if I ever want to find a baby's daddy) then the Brownstone on Main will be showing the Buckeye game on six different TVs throughout the restaurant, and a megatron TV outside. Of course there will be food, music at the afterparty.

It's good to see Mahogany's Soul at the Brownstone back for the second week in a row! This time it will serve as an afterparty to the Ebony Fashion Fair. So if you want to meet you a model, or hang with some beautiful people, you should be there.
